Cabaret du Chat Noir // EXPO DES 150
Posted on May 08 2025
In March I had an opportunity to work with the legendary association of Le cabaret du Chat Noir, which traces it’s roots to the original Le Chat Noir of Montmartre founded by Rodolphe Salis in 1881. At that time, Le Chat Noir was a cultural hub for writers, artists, and musicians in Paris.
The Expo 150 utilized a almost 90,000 square ft in what was once a switchboard center for the phone company. The Space was taken over by an exhibition of well over 150 urban artists. I was given a space on the ground floor at the bottom of a winding staircase that had 2 stone archways to create an installation

The entire project was an inspiration. We had just 24 hours to take the vacant empty building and create a installations murals galleries and a restaurant and Bar. During the 2 weeks that it was open there were performances, Dj sets and everyday new artists were being added.
In the end over 100,000 people visited this event while it was open.
It’s a rare opportunity to participate in a collective this large, where you actually feel like something almost historic is taking place. The space was just incredible and I created these backlit images on fabric to create the installation.
